In the News 1974...

You'll find a welcome waiting at the Open Arms.

Residents in the Riddrie area of Glasgow do not have to travel far these days when they want a quiet meal in the evening.

For just opened two weeks ago id the Open Arms, a public bar and licensed restaurant in Smithycroft Road, just off Cumbernauld Road.

At the Open Arms you will get as friendly a welcome as the name suggests, and you will also get a very pleasant meal at equally pleasant prices. "I don't think there is anything else like this in the area," said young manager Iain Shaw. This is one of the reasons why Ushers, the people behind The Open Arms, decided to open such premises in Riddrie.

"We felt there was a need for a pub and restaurant in this area," an Ushers spokesman said, "We felt that the residents shouldn't have to travel right into Glasgow to have a relaxing evening meal."

Modern design

If you go to Smithycroft Road you'll find it hard to miss the modern premises that are The Open Arms. The building of a modern design with a brick frontage and a red roof.
